"Long history with CLU"
In 1972 the Chair of the department at USC where I was working as a Teaching Assistant called me into his office. He prefaced his remarks with, "I don't know if this interests you but..." and then told me that a department chair from California Lutheran College with degrees from USC wanted to know if there was a graduate student working on the Ph.D would be willing to teach full-time at CLC in the fall.
When I drove out for the interview, I thought I was going to Sherman Oaks, not Thousand Oaks. Upon arrival, I stopped at a gas station on Moorpark. When I asked directions to CLC, the attendant directed me to go down ‘tio' boulevard. Of course I had to ask where ‘tio' blvd. was. I learned quickly that it was the abbreviation for Thousand Oaks Blvd.
Today, 37 years later, I still remember my arrival and do not regret it. And most significantly, it was here where I met the most wonderful man in the world: my husband.
P.S. I even held classes in the dorms and in Holy Trinity Church.
