"Lutheran roots leads to teaching"

Anonymous

I grew up in a Lutheran family. My father was a deacon; my mother was the director of the Sunday school program. My brother was the church organist and later became a Lutheran minister. I was a Sunday school teacher at 15 and Luther League president.

I graduated from Augsburg College. Then my husband and I went to California on our honeymoon and decided to stay.

I knew I wanted to be in education but took a job at a junior high school which was not a good age group. After one year I told my husband I would rather dig ditches than go back.

I was disillusioned so I decided to go in another direction. I attended the Ventura Police Academy and became a police woman. It was a wonderful experience but after a couple of years I was yearning to teach. I started four vocational schools with a partner, ran them for 12 years and then sold them. The buyout agreement kept me from going into voc ed for 3 years. At this time I wanted to give back to my Lutheran heritage so I started teaching at CLU and this has been a perfect fit for me.
