"Freshman First Year Experience"
I enjoy the opportunity to work with the Freshman First Year Experience. One particular student stands out in my thoughts. Our first meeting he was quiet, nervous, rather awkward. His parents shared with me their concern that he would close himself off and not make friends or do well academically. He was clearly scared.
During the semester, he started to warm up. He spent a lot of time in my office working through issues. By the end of the semester he was a sufficient young man. I have also had the privilege of having him in classes and as a senior this coming fall, he is confident, doing well socially, actively participating in activities, and doing well academically.
Community is what brought me to CLU and community is what makes me want to stay.
I think this is one of CLU’s strong points- there were always faculty members encouraging us to press on.
Through my work, I now have the opportunity to give back to the CLU community and treat students, staff, and faculty as I was treated as a graduate student.
Her story is like others in the program, those wanting satisfaction and gratification in something they attempted once in their lives
