Michael Shaw, Ph.D.
Professor of Physics & Bioengineering
Professor Michael C. Shaw received a Ph.D. in Materials from the University of California, Santa Barbara, an M.S. in Ceramic Engineering from the Ohio State University, and a B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
He performed his post-doctoral studies at the University of Cambridge, England. Prior to his current appointment, he was Manager, Design and Reliability Department, Rockwell Scientific Company (formerly Rockwell Science Center).
Dr. Shaw seeks to apply his lifelong fascination for the relationships between the structure and properties of all forms of matter to topics in aerospace, power electronics, biomaterials and astrophysics through individual research projects with undergraduate students in his lab.
He is co-author of 'Integrated Science -- New Approaches to Education' and has received several awards for his publications and presentations. He has over 45 publications. He also actively enjoys hiking, surfing, bicycling and photography.
