Lisa L. Buono, Ed.D.
- Interim ADEP Director
Dr. Buono joined the faculty of CLU in 2004. She is a native of Los Angeles, CA and has a background in counseling and guidance in secondary and post-secondary settings as well as in higher education leadership. She has taught a variety of coursesin the Pupil Personnel Services and College Student Personnel specializations in the Department of Counseling and Guidance. Through a collaborative effort, Dr. Buono also taught distance learning courses to counseling candidates in the Federated States of Micronesia.
She possesses a strong interest in educational technology; her dissertation work focused on student experiences with blogs in skills-based counselor education courses and she recently co-authored a book chapter titled “The use of Technology in Counselor Education and Supervision” (2011, in the Handbook of Counselor Preparation: Constructivist, Developmental, and Experiential Approaches, Sage Publications).
Dr. Buonoserves asan at-large member of the Faculty Executive Committee.
Prior to CLU, Dr. Buono taught at UCLA in the MFA Producer's Program.
Tanya Baxter - ADEP Operations Coordinator
Tanya serves as the Operations Coordinator at the front desk in the ADEP office. She has been with Cal Lutheran since February 2008 and with ADEP since December 2011. She has a wealth of knowledge about Cal Lutheran, including ADEP and how it functions. She coordinates the New Student Orientations, provides customer service support for students and faculty, assists with registration processes, as well as organizes and oversees front desk activities. Prior to working with ADEP she was the Site Coordinator at CLU’s Oxnard campus.
When she's not in the office, she enjoys spending time with her husband of 20 years, and three daughters. Her oldest is a Communications major at CLU, she has a 17 year old who is an artist and senior in high school. Tanya’s 11 year old enjoys reading, singing, swimming, and running track.
Kristy Fenstermaker - Academic Advisor
Kristy has been with ADEP since September, 2011 serving as an academic advisor to our ADEP Thousand Oaks and Woodland Hills students. She is a two-time Cal Lutheran alumnus, having earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and her Master’s degree in Counseling and Guidance with a Pupil Personnel Services credential. She has a variety of education and counseling experiences, from working in a private School classroom as a Behavior Specialist to working as a School Counselor for at-risk youth in grades 7-12. Kristy believes assisting students in reaching their academic goals is of paramount importance. When Kristy is not busy advising her students; she enjoys spending time with her husband and time outdoors, traveling to either the beach or the mountains.
Rocio Hernandez - Associate Director
Rocio serves as the Associate Director for the ADEP office. Her vast experience includes college counseling and academic advising at both the community college and four-year university level. Rocio additionally worked in outreach to local Oxnard high schools to encourage students to prepare for and attend college. She received her Master of Science degree in Counseling with a specialization in College Counseling and Student Services from California State University, Northridge. Her thesis focused on the need to train outreach counselors for outreach to historically disadvantaged students at low performing schools. In her role at Cal Lutheran, she assists in the management of ADEP and with the advisement of ADEP students.
She possesses a strong interest in serving historically and traditionally underserved student populations. Currently she is working on her doctoral degree through the University of Southern California. Her dissertation focuses on the experiences of undergraduate adult students in adult degree programs utilizing student development theory.
Prior to Cal Lutheran, Rocio worked at the University of California, Santa Barbara, with both the Educational Opportunity and Early Academic Outreach Programs.
Jystiinn Summers - Administrative Assistant - ADEP/CPE
Jystiinn serves as the ADEP administrative assistant and he coordinates the Continuing & Professional Education Program (CPE). When he isn't in the SBET suite coordinating meetings, scheduling, and assisting instructors, he writes fiction novels. He is in the process of getting his 1st novel published and is currently working on his 2nd novel. His other passion is for motorcycles. He’s been riding sport bikes for almost fifteen years and currently owns a Yamaha YZF-R1. Before joining ADEP in August 2011, he worked as a Meeting Planning Assistant for the American College of Healthcare Executives in downtown Chicago.
