Tuition and Fees

Don't let the cost of an education keep you from realizing your goals. If cost is a concern for you, our financial advisers can suggest ways to make it possible.

Tuition and Fees for the 2008-2009 School Year (effective prices for the Summer 2008 semester).

2008-2009
Application Fee $50.00
Tuition per credit $550.00
Credit by Exam $250.00
Portfolio Assessment $250.00
Payments

Tuition is due and payable on or before the first class meeting, unless you have made alternative payment arrangements. Late payment fees are assessed on delinquent accounts. Students with delinquent accounts cannot register for the new term until fees for the prior term have been paid. All financial obligations must be met before academic records (diplomas, grade reports and transcripts) will be released.

Employer Reimbursement Plan

Students who receive tuition reimbursement from their employer may delay payment for up to eight weeks from the end of the term. To take advantage of this plan you are responsible for:

  • Submitting a confirmation letter or company plan for reimbursement from your employer.
  • Submitting a completed Employer Reimbursement application the term you begin your enrollment and annually (fall term) thereafter
  • Accessing your electronic statement through TouchNet
  • Accessing your grades through WebAdvisor

If the above steps are not completed by the end of the second week of the semester, a $50 late transaction fee will be assessed.

If your employer does not provide 100% reimbursement, you are responsible for paying the difference prior to the first class meeting. If your employer reimbursement plan has a maximum annual limit, CLU will cancel your deferral when that limit is reached. You will be responsible for payment of all tuition charges exceeding your policy limit prior to the first class meeting.

Applications are available on campus on the Student Accounts web page under "forms". The form may be downloaded and faxed to 805-493-3886 or completed online and transmitted electronically to the Student Accounts Office.

Students are ultimately responsible for payment of their fees, tuition and costs. Payment of your account is expected when your employer reimburses you or no later than eight weeks after the end of the term.

If full payment has not been received within eight weeks from the end of the term, interest of 1.25% will accrue monthly on the unpaid balance. A hold will be placed on your account to prevent future registrations until your balance has been paid in full.

Financial Assistance

An adviser in the Financial Aid Office is available to help you assess financial need and an appropriate aid/payment program from various alternatives. Some of the options are listed below.

ADEP Assistantships

ADEP assistantships provide free tuition in exchange for work in the ADEP department. Normally, no more than four free tuition credits will be granted during any one term. A minimum cumulative 2.50 GPA is required for eligibility. Typically, you would need to be available during daytime hours to be eligible for an assistantship. Click here to apply.

ADEP Academic Scholarships

Six nonrenewable academic scholarships for up to $2000, may be awarded each year to new degree-candidate students in the Adult Degree Program who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement. Competitors must submit a one-to-two page essay and have a minimum transfer GPA of 3.0 with at least 30 transfer credits. This competition is for first-time ADEP students only. Students registered for at least three units per term may qualify for the ADEP grant. A financial aid application form called a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be filed.

Federal Pell Grant Program

Under this federal aid program, awards are based on need. A FAFSA form (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is used to apply for this award during the academic year.

Federal Stafford Loan

Eligibility for a Federal Stafford Loan is determined by the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The government pays the variable interest rate on the need-based Stafford loan only. There is also an unsubsidized Stafford loan which is not based on need. A student may borrow up to the annual maximum of $3,500 for first year students, $4,500 for sophomores and $5,500 for juniors/seniors whether borrowing the need-based Stafford loan, unsubsidized Stafford loan or a combination of both. Students must be enrolled at least four or more credits. Interest accures at a fixed interest rate of 6.8%.

Additional Unsubsidized Stafford Loan

These loans are available to independent students and are not based on need. The annual limit is $4,000 per year for first-year students and sophomores, and $5,000 for juniors/seniors at a fixed interest rate of 6.8%. Students must be enrolled at least half-time. Per government regulations, a FAFSA form (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be on file. Stafford loan packets are available at the Financial Aid Office.

Veterans Benefits

Students who may be eligible for veterans benefits should contact the Veterans Administration Office and the Registrar's Office at CLU for specific information.
