About the Major
The accounting curriculum provides a careful balance of accounting practice and theory. Since many ADEP students are already working in accounting or business, they find their studies especially relevant.
Accountants perform a myriad of tasks; they may compile detailed records of business transactions, prepare financial statements, perform audits and prepare tax reports, as well as engage in tax planning and cost and managerial decision making. They may also analyze financial information and provide small-business consulting services. Because the accountant of today and tomorrow has to be a "jack of all trades" who can fit comfortably into any business setting, ADEP accounting majors also receive solid preparation in general business.
CLU prepares accounting majors to enter a variety of careers in public accounting, private industry, government and education where graduates have found employment as auditors, tax specialists, financial analysts, investment bankers, loan officers and consultants. CLU accounting alumni have been very successful in passing the CPA exam and obtaining positions with the largest and most prestigious international accounting firms.
Employment opportunities for accountants are expected to continue to grow at a faster rate than most other professions beyond the turn of the century.
