Instructions for Applying Online
Welcome! Thank you for your interest in California Lutheran University's graduate programs. For further information on our graduate programs, please click on Graduate Admissions. To proceed with your online application, please complete the following steps:
- Create an account (for first time users) or log in to an existing account (for returning users)
- Start or continue your application, as appropriate.
- Save your application to finish later, or complete and submit it today.
Things you'll need to complete your application:
- Personal information, including information on your educational and professional background
- A personal statement. Please click on the appropriate link for detailed information on your program's requirements:
- Test scores (e.g. TOEFL, GRE, GMAT, etc.) - please note these can be waived under certain circumstance)
- A credit card for payment of the US$25 application fee
- International students only: a photo in electronic format (maximum of 5 MB)

About the Online Application
General Information
This online application offers you with the opportunity to complete your application quickly and efficiently. If you have all information needed, it should not take you longer than 15-20 minutes from the creation of an account to submitting your application. If you chose to do so, you can also complete your application in multiple sessions. The system allows you to access an activity log of your account in order to check if your information has been received. Your data are transmitted securely over the Internet. The information you enter is encrypted and secure when you save it and when you send it. Although general data collected on the system may be used in statistical studies and reports designed to assist institutions with planning, any information bearing your personal identification is disclosed only to the department to which you send it.
Creating an Account
Creating an account is an easy process. The system prompts you for a username and a password that you can both choose yourself. After you have entered this information, click the 'Create my Account' button at the bottom of the form. Don't forget to copy your username and password information for future reference. With this information you can log on to the online application at any time.
Completing Information
Throughout the application, the system will prompt you to enter certain types of information. Make sure you have all personal information (e. g. information on education or work experience, names of recommenders, credit card, personal statement, etc.) ready when you start the application. Should you omit a required field during the completion of the application or should you have entered data incorrectly, you will be taken to a Data Correction Page. Changes you need to make will appear in red text at that page.
Saving Information
The application can be completed in one or multiple sessions. Simply do not forget to click the 'Save and Exit' button. To access your application and continue work on it at a later time, return to the online application, and enter your username and password when prompted.
Submitting an application
When you are satisfied with your application and are ready to send it to us, click the send button at the bottom of the last page. This saves your data in their final form and takes you to the payment page where you pay your application fee online using a debit/credit card or by check (US banks only). Please note that your application is sent to us until you pay your application fee and it is authorized. Check your Activity Log to print a copy of your form or to learn if we have received it.
Personal Statement/Statement of Purpose
Adult Degree Evening Program (ADEP)
No personal Statement is required.
Psychology
Masters Candidates: Your personal statement should be no more than two typewritten pages covering the significant influences and events which have developed your present values and approach to life. Include ways in which these factors may contribute to preparation of a psychology profession. Also include your personal interest, goals and professional objects.
Doctoral Candidates: Your Statement of Purpose should be no more than three typewritten pages and should included: What interests in the field of psychology; Why you've chosen this time in your life to pursue a doctoral program; Why you are applying to CLU's Psy.D. program. Applicants are encouraged to review the Psy.D. program philosophy to illustrate how the program's philosophy fits with your own personal or professional objective.
Public Policy and Administration
Your personal statement should provide specify examples of leadership, discuss career goals and provide any other pertinent information that will assist us in selecting persons who can most benefit from and contribute to the program.
School of Business
Your personal statement should be no more than two pages describing why you would like to obtain a masters degree.
School of Education
Your personal statement should discuss each element of the School of Education's Vision Statement. Please compose a short paragraph reflecting your thoughts on element. The paragraph should include your own perspective, personal and professional experiences and specific examples. The School of Education Vision Statement can be found here.
