Major in Computer Science
Computer science graduates are accepted into many of the nation's leading graduate programs, or enter the work force as web masters, systems or software engineers, database and network support specialists, and network administrators.
If dreaming up the next software breakthrough, programming the newest code, or developing the fastest, smallest, lightest, most powerful computer system is your ideal career, a computer science major at CLU will help you get there.
Computer science students develop the critical skills needed by those targeting professions in software and hardware development, programming, computer use in business, computer engineering, and education. They're well prepared for the demands they'll encounter in the fast-changing, rapidly growing computer science industry, and enjoy the benefits of Cal Lutheran's location in the Southern California high tech heartland.
Among those benefits is the opportunity to participate in internships at one of the many technology-focused corporations housed both in the communities surrounding the campus and in the greater Los Angeles area.
In addition to their liberal arts coursework, computer science students take a minimum of 48 credits in computer science to complete the bachelor of science degree. They learn and work in Cal Lutheran's computer science facility, which boasts electronic classrooms with large screen projection systems, an experimental networking lab that runs various network operating systems, and PC laboratories.
With low student-to-faculty ratio, personalized attention is a hallmark of the computer science department, where small classes and a strong focus on student projects and research are the norm. Internships help students make the jump from classroom to career. Among the companies for which computer science majors have interned recently are Hughes, Raytheon, Cap Gemini, Connexant, eRei, Maxon, HomeStore, Teradyne, Rockwell International, JPL, J.D. Power & Associates, IBM, HP, Litton Industries, and Disney.
