Major in German

Employment fields for German majors include positions as translators, interpreters, travel agents and educators. Translators / interpreters are employed in business, international trade, banking, church missions and international aid organizations.

California Lutheran University's German major curriculum offers students a variety of opportunities through coursework, study abroad and extracurricular activities. In order to immerse the German major in the language, German is predominantly spoken in upper division classes.

German courses include conversation and composition as well as studies in German grammar, literature and film.

CLU's extensive Study Abroad Program allows students to spend a semester or an academic year in Germany or Austria. Also, the German program sponsors various field trips to theaters, museums, libraries and restaurants to experience German culture.

When combined with business studies, a degree in German provides graduates with even broader career opportunities. Translators/ interpreters are employed in business, international trade, banking, church missions and international aid organizations.

Proficiency Requirement:
All CLU students are required, for Core-21, to meet the Foreign Language Proficiency in one of the following ways: by achieving a satisfactory score on a Language Proficiency Exam; by passing two courses in the same language; or by passing one course at the second semester level.
