Minor in Art
To build an exceptional career in visual and creative arts, it takes a combination of traditional and contemporary art education combined with hands-on experience.
Art degrees incorporate a general foundation in historical and modern art with studio classes that strengthen students' visual imagery, creative skills, and analytical thinking. Emphasizing individualized attention and creative motivation, the program combines a wide range of academic and art disciplines with real-world experience, philosophies, and attitudes. Students choose either a standard art major curriculum or the art major with a concentration in design, which incorporates advanced courses in computer graphics.
To enhance their creative skills and prepare them for professional work, students learn how to use sophisticated computer graphics programs that rely on the latest software and configurations.
Students are encouraged to participate in University-sponsored projects and tours abroad. Many art majors study at the Studio Art Center International in Florence, Italy.
Art majors accept internships at area museums and centers and participate in performances by Cal Lutheran's drama and music departments. Art majors also take advantage of the many museums and architectural landmarks that grace the Southern California landscape, including the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Norton Simon Museum, the Pacific-Asia Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, the Armand Hammer Museum, and many more.
Students interested in teaching art should contact the Chair of the Art Department for information about the art subject matter program.
