You can't say very often that you live next to all your closest friends, but I love that. It's that community feel that keeps me coming back for more.

Undergraduate Admission

Minor in Communication

A communication degree at Cal Lutheran incorporates the study of communication theory with the development of the practical skills demanded in today's highly competitive marketplace. The program covers a broad array of subjects, including the intense study of new and emerging communication technologies.

CLU's communication program provides students with a comprehensive background in mass media and communication theory, allowing them to complete either a generalized major or one that emphasizes advertising & public relations, electronic media production, or journalism (print, radio, and television).

Students can gain hands-on experience working for the department's award-winning newspaper, The Echo, or for the campus-wide cable television station operating out of our new on-campus TV studio. Communication education also takes students out of the classroom and into the workplace, with the requirement that they complete at least one industry internship or produce a special senior project.

While in the program, many students work or intern for a variety of organizations, including television stations CNN, KNBC, CBS, Fox Television, KCAL and KADY; shows such as Access Hollywood; radio stations including Cal Lutheran's own KCLU national public radio; local and regional newspapers, including the Thousand Oaks Star and Los Angeles Times; sports information departments for the L.A. Clippers and L.A. Kings; marketing firms and departments, including those at J.D. Power & Associates, and Amgen; software companies; Ticketmaster and sports marketing firms.

Thanks to our comprehensive communication degree programs, and the valuable experience our students gain through internships and senior projects, graduates have tallied an impressively high placement rate.

Access to Southern California's media universe means jobs for CLU communication graduates-with the L.A. Clippers, L.A. Kings, Access Hollywood, Buena Vista Television (Disney), Paramount Pictures, and in human resources, market research, and publishing. They've also headed to graduate school and into teaching.
