A DAY IN THE LIFE OF THE GILBERT CENTER

When Cal Lu students say they’re “going to the gym,” that might mean visiting the Human Performance Lab to use the state of the art 3-D force plate, 6-camera optical capture/motion analysis system to study biomechanics; or a session in the Athletic Training Room and Teaching Lab exploring athletic injury recognition and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. The 96,000-square-foot facility also holds a dance studio, and the Forrest Fitness Center—where students and team athletes use weight machines, free weights, a resistance training circuit, and an expanded cardio mezzanine—as well as the 1,500-seat Gilbert Arena where the Regals and Kingsmen basketball and Regals volleyball teams compete.

Ballet is as much a part of the Gilbert as brawn, with students learning to plié in the facility’s dedicated dance studio.
The Training Room keeps Cal Lu athletes at the top of their games—a place for taping, hydrotherapy, muscle and joint treatments, and rehabilitation.
Regals Volleyball uses the 1,500 seat Gilbert Arena to set, spike, and have fun.
The Forest Fitness Center boasts 10,000 square feet of free weights, machine weights, and aerobic conditioning machines.
Shooting hoops between classes or practicing for the big game, the Gilbert Arena is the place to kick back for a little B-ball.
