Welcome to the Spring issue of CAL LU magazine. Spring is a wonderful time of year in Southern California. Daytime temperatures hover in the mid 60s in January and February, and then settle right around 70 degrees through May making outdoor activities an invigorating option all season long.

The nature lovers among us appreciate that the City of Thousand Oaks has dedicated itself to providing urban amenities and conveniences, while also protecting and preserving natural resources. As a result, Thousand Oaks is surrounded by more than 14,800 acres of publicly owned open space and contains 75 miles of hiking and biking trails, many located a short distance from CLU's campus (and the Pacific Ocean).

In this issue, we'll venture out on some of those beautiful trails, find out what campus life is like on a day-to-day basis with CLU roommates Alanna Clunen and Christy Sutphen, and check in on a student and faculty research project that is currently being conducted through our Exercise Science and Sports Medicine (ESSM) program.

The question of research is an important one to consider in your college search process. If you are considering a larger school with extensive graduate programs in your field of interest, chances are that any available research opportunities are going to be offered to those students first. At CLU, undergraduates are conducting hands-on research alongside award-winning faculty and are showcasing their projects in CLU's Festival of Scholars and academic conferences around the country.

I hope what you see in CAL LU magazine will lead you to our doorstep. We'd love to show you around and introduce you to the people who make CLU an extraordinary university.
