Student Life
New people. New friends. New experiences. You’ll become part of a vibrant community, an extended family. There’s an energy here, an activity level you don’t find on most campuses. In fact, 80 percent of our students are involved in intercollegiate and intramural sports. From spontaneous volleyball games to mountain biking through the surrounding hills, our students are doing it. Maybe it’s our location—perhaps those sunny Southern California days just make students want to be outside.
Get Involved
Student government, sports, social clubs and service projects—CLU has plenty of opportunities for involvement and leadership. Social groups include those for academic subjects such as French, art and philosophy. Or professional organizations in fields such as accounting and marketing. Sing in the choir or write for The Echo, our student newspaper.
Interested in student government? Choose from three dynamic groups. Run for Student Senate and work on policies that affect student life. Plan Homecoming, the Spring Formal and other social events on the Programs Board. Or take a leadership role in issues affecting dorm life with the Residence Hall Association.
The Community Service Center coordinates volunteering in the local community. Students and faculty lend their help, time and support with nonprofit organizations such as Manna, Project Angel Food, the Thousand Oaks Health Care Center and Habitat for Humanity—and learn lasting lessons about life and themselves.
A World of Knowledge
Cal Lutheran believes becoming a world citizen is a part of the educational process. You’ll be getting to know students and professors from other ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds. Holiday celebrations such as Dia de los Muertos, Kwanzaa and the Santa Lucia Festival of Lights are just a few of the on-campus multicultural events. In April, Cal Lutheran hosts the Scandinavian Festival as a way of celebrating and honoring the University’s roots.
