Greetings Class of 2000!!
How is it summer already? Hopefully many of you are taking advantage of the warm weather and enjoying some R & R! For many, summer is a “down time” of sorts, with many enjoying vacations from the usual grind, but things on campus are still hopping and we wanted to give you a few updates.
Since we last wrote, a few new things have happened at CLU:
- CLU is launching the Elton and Janice Gallegly Center for Public Service and Civic Engagement. As part of the university's Master's in Public Policy and Administration program, the nonpartisan center will provide students with extensive experiential learning opportunities at the local, state and national levels. The focus is on developing public servants of character and integrity.
- CLU’s $30 million science initiative will create a physical symbol of the collaborative, investigative approach in place across all disciplines at the University. A proposed new facility will add 45,000 square feet of space, supporting problem-based learning through more specialized lab and collaborative spaces. It will enable the University to remain competitive in recruiting new students and meeting growing demand among science majors.
- Cal Lutheran has launched the Cal Lutheran Victory Club. Conceived as a way to bring together everyone who supports Cal Lutheran Athletics, membership in the Victory Club will enhance the student-athlete experience by offering teams increased travel opportunities, improved facilities, special equipment and the development of a contingency fund for special sports program needs.
- Rev. Guy Erwin, Cal Lutheran’s first Gerhard and Olga J. Belgum Professor of Lutheran Confessional Theology, has been selected as the new bishop of the Southwest California Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).
Of course, with summer in full-swing, it’s time for the annual Kingsmen Shakespeare Festival. This year, the Alumni Association is hosting a ticketed dinner prior to the evening performance on Saturday, July 27th. There will be a guest speaker from the theater company. Visit the Alumni Association web site for more info.
Finally, be sure to mark your calendars for the 2013 Homecoming and Family Weekend, October 18th thru the 20th. While this isn’t a major reunion year for our class, it’s always a great time to reconnect with old friends and visit the campus. (Be sure to update your contact information before July 31st to be entered into a drawing for a 2-night stay at the Four Season’s Westlake Village! Update your info here: www.callutheran.edu/alumni/plugin/update-info.php)
This year means we are only 2 years away from our 15-year reunion…..whew, where did the time go?! We’d love to start connecting with all of you in preparation of our reunion and catch up on all the exciting things we know our class has been up to. If you’ve recently taken on a new position (paid or volunteer), gone back to school, gotten married, had children, have traveled to distant (or not-so-distant) locales, we’d love to hear about it. Email us at the below email addresses, send us a pic or contact us via Facebook (we have a group set up – Cal Lutheran Class of 2000).
Looking forward to hearing from you all!
With CLU Pride,
Sommer (Embree) Barwick Stephanie Howe Irene (Tyrrell) Moyer
