Profile

I’m in the 24th year of my professorial/academic career.  I have taught at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the fields of psychology, counseling, marriage and family therapy, and business administration.  I earned a B.A. in Psychology, a M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy, and a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology (Georgia State University, APA-accredited).  At the Ph.D. level, I specialized in Organizational Psychology (focus on Corporate Change), and Forensic Psychology (Forensic Assessment and Crime Autopsies).  I completed two post-doctoral trainings – one in Forensic Psychology (U.S. Penitentiary, Atlanta, GA, APA- accredited) and another one in Therapy at the Atlanta Network for Individual and Family Therapy (where I practiced for almost a decade as a psychotherapist).

The focus of my research is on acculturation’s effect on mental health, sexual abuse perpetrators (adult and juvenile), and leadership (corporate and academic).  My love of teaching and small, focused programs brought me out of the multiple administrative experiences I had in a few colleges and universities, and an organizational consulting career that took me all over the world.  That is, in addition to being a professor, I have been a department chair, an associate dean (research and graduate studies), an academic dean, and chief administrative officer (Vice President – mixed obligations of a provost and chief operating officer).  My consulting work related to corporate change and managerial matters.

All of the aforementioned professional experiences add to a certain perspective about the intent and purpose of an education at the graduate level.  My experiences molded a distinct educational philosophy that ends in the desire for my students to be self-aware, genuine, caring, and successful professionals.
