Student Learning Outcomes
SLOs Evidence
Indirect Evidence
Students complete Satisfaction, Exit, and Alumni Surveys. The survey responses provide us with student perception of their improvement in each of the CLU student learning outcomes (SLOs).
NOEL-LEVTIZ
In Fall 2004, sophomore and junior Undergraduate students responded to the Noel-Levitz Student Satisfaction Survey. Five CLU SLOs and four diversity topics were written as Survey items. A sample Student Learning Outcomes item is: CLU provides an environment that allows me to gain ethical and professional judgment.
In Spring 2006, Adult Degree Education Program (ADEP) and Graduate Program students responded to the Noel-Levitz Adult Student Priorities Survey. The 14 CLU SLOs were written as Survey items. A sample Student Learning Outcomes item is: My classes provide opportunities to improve my critical thinking skills (generate questions, interpret and apply information).
Each Survey item was rated by importance and satisfaction. The difference between the ratings was calculated as the “gap.”

NSSE
In 2001, 2005 and 2008, first and senior year Undergraduate students responded to the National Survey for Student Engagement (NSSE). NSSE survey items were identified as corresponding to CLU's Student Learning Outcomes.

Direct Evidence
Written Communication, Information Literacy, and Critical Thinking (WIC) Student Learning Outcomes
Assessing student learning outcomes in undergraduate student papers began in 2000. Student papers were scored to determine the levels of achievement in two of the 14 Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs): Written communication and critical thinking. In 2006, Information Literacy was added and in 2007, both undergraduate and graduate student papers were scored.
