University Wind Ensemble

Samuelson Chapel

The University Wind Ensemble will perform works that feature the individual sections of the ensemble (brass choir, percussion battery and woodwinds) culminating in a performance of Sigfried Karg-Elert’s “Praise the Lord with Drums and Cymbals,” featuring University organist Mark Holmstrom and the entire ensemble conducted by Daniel Geeting.

The story of the birth of Christ has a protagonist that makes all stories of motherhood pale by comparison – the faithful and seemingly fearless servant of God, Mary. Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox traditions all have images of this young Jewish woman who was declared by the archangel Gabriel to be “highly favored” in God's sight.
