This year marks the 50th year since the University’s first Convocation was held on Oct. 24, 1958. The day has been designated as “Founders Day” to be observed each year to recall the genesis of the school and to pray for its success.
Keynote speaker Stanley Olson, Executive Director for the Vocation and Education Unit of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, will speak on the ELCA’s commitment to and partnership with Lutheran higher education and its vision for the future. Olson previously served as Executive Director for the Division for Ministry of the ELCA and as bishop of the Southwestern Minnesota Synod. He also served as pastor of several Minnesota churches and was a professor of New Testament at his alma mater, Luther Seminary in St. Paul. He is a graduate of two ELCA colleges (Waldorf and St. Olaf) and holds a doctorate from Yale University. He is the author of a number of articles and Christian education resources for children, youth and adults.
The service will include the commissioning of Convocators and members of the Board of Regents, and presentation of the Christus Award to Beverly Anderson of Sun City West, Ariz.
