Event Description

Rosemaling (or rose painting), a style of interior decorative painting popular in Norway from 1700 to 1850, has seen a resurgence of popularity in recent years. A wide variety of floral, leaf and other motifs applied to smooth, pre-painted wooden surfaces reflects woodcarvings of earlier times and can be seen decorating furniture, walls, doors and ceilings in Norwegian or Norwegian-American homes.

Ingrid Nordgren-Pratt, who has been rosemaling since 1983, has earned the respect and admiration of folk art devotees in Ventura County and beyond for the excellence and beauty of her painting. In her presentation, she will explain the various regional patterns and demonstrate the precision necessary for quality rosemaling.

Admission is free.
