Faculty Chamber Ensemble Plays Messiaen
Clarinetist Daniel Geeting, violinist Melissa Phelps, cellist Joyce Geeting and pianist Eric Kinsley perform Messiaen's stunning masterpiece Quartet for the End of Time, composed in the bleak winter of 1941 in a German prison camp. Senior music students Daniel Liles and Katharine Wade will read notes by Messiaen about his piece.
Daniel Geeting teaches clarinet and conducts the university wind ensembles and symphony. Kinsley, a senior music lecturer, has performed and lectured in venues including the Getty Center, the Huntington Library and the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Phelps, who appeared as a soloist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the age of 10, has performed with such artists as Itzhak Perlman, Luciano Pavarotti and The Moody Blues. Joyce Geeting, an adjunct faculty member in the CLU Music Department, has performed throughout the United States and Western Europe and has appeared on television and radio broadcasts.
