Outstanding Scandinavian American

SACHF Award Presentation

The Scandinavian American Cultural and Historical Foundation will present its Outstanding Scandinavian American of the Year award to L. Karsten Lundring of Thousand Oaks.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Lundring decided in seventh grade that he wanted to be a general agent for Lutheran Brotherhood, now Thrivent Financial. He began working as a licensed agent when he was a freshman at California Lutheran University (then College). Now a co-managing partner for the company’s southwest region, he was inducted into the General Agents and Managers Association Hall of Fame, one of the highest honors in the financial industry, in 2012.

A member of the "pioneer" class of Cal Lutheran, Lundring graduated in 1965 and has been a generous donor and enthusiastic supporter of the University. He served on the Board of Regents for 26 years, including six as chair. He has twice been honored as Outstanding Alumnus, and he received the Christus Award for strengthening the bridge between CLU and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in 2005.

Along with his wife, Kirsten, Lundring is active in Ascension Lutheran Church in Thousand Oaks as a teacher of its Sunday church school and a member of the choir. He is well-known for his role as Master of Ceremonies of the annual Scandinavian Festival and his support of other activities of the SACHF.

The celebration will include presentation of a citation, remarks by CLU President Chris Kimball and others, and music by the Ascension Lutheran Church Choir. A gala reception will follow.

The SACHF has honored a prominent resident of California as "Outstanding Scandinavian American of the Year" for the past 30 years. Recent honorees include Jerry Slattum, Cal Lutheran professor emeritus of art, in 2012 and prominent wood craftsman Hans Torsten Olsson in 2013.

Admission is free. Lundring Events Center is located in the Gilbert Sports and Fitness Center at 130 Overton Court on the Cal Lutheran campus in Thousand Oaks. For information, contact Larry Ashim, SACHF President, 805-523-1269.
