Guest Writer Series

Heather Winterer, writer and associate professor at Northern New Mexico College in Espanola, will read from and discuss her book of poetry The Two Standards, a work that enacts, via “a postmodern translation,”  St. Ignatius Loyola’s Spiritual Exercises.

Winterer holds a Ph.D. in Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she was a Shaeffer Fellow for poetry, and a MFA in Creative Writing from Columbia University. Her first book of poetry, The Two Standards, was published in November 2012 by the Colorado Center for Literary Publishing, as part of the Mountain West Poetry Series. A series of ten poems from her current manuscript, Art’s Garage, won the Iowa Review Prize for 2010 and she has also won the Tusculum Review and the Literal Latte prizes for poetry. Her writing has appeared in such national literary journals as American Poetry Review, Barrow Street, Fence, The Colorado Review, Hotel Amerika, and many others.
