Killing Us Softly 4 - Advertising's Image of Women

The television show Mad Men arrested viewers with its depictions of gender hierarchy in the advertising world. Fortunately, women have come a long way in how they are viewed by society – or have they?

The documentary Killing Us Softly 4 is the result of research by Jean Kilbourne, Ed.D., on the myriad ways in which advertising still treats women as objects, devalues them as human beings, delimits their career options, and holds them to unrealistic standards of body types.

Cal Lutheran’s Gender Studies Program and the Ventura County chapter of the AAUW present a screening of this provocative film in honor of International Women’s Day. A panel discussion will follow.

Admission is free.
