Pioneering Sustainability through Organics Conversion

Entrepreneur Speaker Series

Bill Camarillo, CEO of Agromin, one of the largest organics recyclers in California and the United States, remains passionate after 23 years in the industry. As CEO, he plays a key role in pioneering sustainability through organics conversion. All of Agromin’s more than 200 eco-friendly organic soil products - which range across the retail, agriculture, landscape and energy sectors - are the earth-friendly result of over 380,000 tons of organic materials that are converted each year.

“Organics are a Gift ... a gift of energy from the sun-soil-water equation. Agromin is committed to harvesting this gift, through innovation and transformation technologies that maximize the conversion of Organics’ eco-friendly rewards,” says, Bill Camarillo.

Over the past several years, Agromin has received numerous awards in recognition of its sound business practices and its recycling and sustainability efforts. These include the California Resource Recovery Association's 2009 "Leadership in Organics" award, Ventura County Board of Supervisors 2009 "Climate Change Action Award," City of Ventura's 2009 "Environmental Excellence Award" and the US Composting Council's 2008 "Composter of the Year." It was also designated as a California Climate Action Registry "Climate Action Leader."

In 2011, Mr. Camarillo was named by the Ventura County Leadership Academy the “Distinguished Business Leader of the Year.” In 2013, he received VCEDA’s highest honor the Carl Lowthorp’s Golden Eagle Award. He attributes his business acumen, leadership and vision to his 10 years of experience in the U.S. Marine Corps and his formal education. While in the Marine Corps, he finished two associates degrees from College of the Desert in Palm Springs, California, a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science, both in Business Administration, from the University of Redlands.

Mr. Camarillo currently sits on several nonprofit boards including the Ventura County Economic Development Association (VCEDA) as Past Chairman, Gold Coast Veterans Foundation and the California Compost Coalition.
