Editorial Support
California Lutheran University does not guarantee the quality or availability of the editors listed on this site. This listing is strictly a paid service provider list. A few other things to know:1. Some editors know APA and Turabian. Some don't know either one. Be sure to ask, and don't let them fake you out if they don't know it, or you'll pay for their training.
2. Some freelance editors and editing services offer a sliding scale depending on the needs of writers.
3. Some can help you develop your ideas (developmental editing), though none will replace the content expertise of your faculty mentor.
4. Some will do slash and burn editing; others prefer to go slow and easy and query writers about nearly every change. Explain your needs and negotiate an approach.
5. Some prefer to work with a disk, some with hard copy.
6. Ask for references.
Naturally, you'll want to do as much work yourself as you can, since editors usually charge an hourly rather than piecemeal rate.
You might also want to call a community college English Department or check such publications as the Chronicle of Higher Education for editing services.
