Academic Assistance Program
What is the AAP and how does it assists Probationary Students and Conditionally Admitted Students?
With the Academic Assistance Program, our Probationary Students and Conditionally Admitted students are asked to sign a contract that requires they attend study hours, make tutoring appointments, and adhere to monthly progress reports from their faculty. As part of this contract, they meet with the CAAR office weekly to discuss their classes and academic progress. The AAP program is optional for Athletes, Honor Roll Students, Future graduate school students, Freshmen or anyone who is interested in developing stronger academic goals. *
The AAP works directly with the student and professor. The Academic Counselor assigned to each student will work with the professor to gain information on the student’s success in the class. This process is done by emails, phone calls, assessing the class syllabi, and intrusive techniques.
The students are held accountable to the CAAR office for meeting weekly with the Academic Counselor, adhering to mandatory library study hours, and attending mandatory monthly workshops. Thus, the students will have access to resources made available through AAP as the Academic Counselor will refer and direct students to appropriate resources.
What past AAP student had to say:
" I believe the watchful eye was the most beneficial part of the program. You knew that there was somebody watching your academic progress, so it acted as a motivator. The coordinator also kept me up to date with my core and major requirements "
“The weekly meetings; they were helpful. The presentations were exceptionally well for my learning. The library hours were a big help to homework getting done.”
" This program is only here for me and my success, so I think this was a great way to help me get into gear !”
