CLEP & Language Proficiency Exams

Important Announcements:
* CLEP Exams are now available to CLU and non-CLU students. Please be advised of the different forms and payment amounts.
* Students may only reschedule their exam once. After that, they will need to pay another $30 or $40 (even if 48 hours notice is given)
CLEP EXAMS:
Earn credit for a specific class offered at CLU by testing out of that specific class. Tests offered on a case-by-case basis and will only be offered to a student that has NOT taken the class in any form previously. Contact the professor of the class, or the department chair to discuss testing options.
Complete the Following Steps to Register for a CLEP Exam:
1. Print out the Registration Form: DOWNLOAD REGISTRATION FORM - CLU Students
DOWNLOAD REGISTRATION FORM - NON-CLU Students
2. Complete the Registration Form, listing the requested exam and test date/time. Please review the CLEP Test Date schedule below to determine which test dates are still available. Unavailable test dates will be listed as "CLOSED"
3. Submit the Registration Form by fax, mail, or in-person. Include the Registration Fee of $30 (checks can be made out to: CLU) We only accept Visa and Mastercard, not American Express.
4. A confirmation email will be sent by Justine Westgate after all Registration materials have been received
5. The CLEP Exam Fee of $72 will be paid at the time of the exam (checks can be made out to: CLEP)
On July 1, 2009 the CLEP fee increased from $70 to $72

LANGUAGE TESTS:
Orientation LPE RSVP (for new incoming students only)
Sign up for your Language Placement Exam (LPE)! We will be offering exams on September 1st from 2pm-4pm. Click on this link to reserve your spot: http://CTLSilhouette.wsu.edu/surveys/ZS93409. RSVP is required to take the exam on September 1st and no walk-ins will be accepted. Seats will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis utilizing a rotating cycle. Please note that there will be other LPE opportunities every month throughout the fall and spring semesters. A schedule can be found below.

Spanish/French/German/Russian
The exam is administered on computers and is multiple choice. There is no study guide available because its purpose is to assess your level of proficiency upon entering CLU. You may take the exam no more than three times.
You may take the exam any time on your own computer to test your proficiency in your selected language. Please click on the above Spanish/French/German/Russian link. The password is grace. This is case sensitive, so please type in all lower case. You will see your score directly after your exam. However, if you place out of the language requirement completely, you must take the exam again in a proctored setting. Please note that you will not receive any credits for passing out of the requirement. It will be up to you to make up that 4-8 units.
If you are placed into 201 or higher, you do not have to take a language class at CLU to satisfy the CORE21 foreign language requirement but may continue studying the language at an advanced level if you choose to do so.
Placement exams are given during orientation and throughout the semester. You must sign up to take the exam in a proctored setting. There is a sign-up sheet in the CAAR office if you would like to take an exam. Please refer to the following dates:

Other Languages:
If you are proficient in another language besides the ones listed above (Spanish, German, French, & Russian), you may request a test in that language by contacting Justine Westgate at (805)493-3991.You will be charged a fee of $55 to secure, order, proctor, and grade the exam. These tests are for proficiency ONLY which means that you will be exempt from taking foreign language at CLU, but you will not receive any credits.
