Internship for Credit

Want to do an Internship for Academic Credit?

An internship is an upper division planned and supervised field experience designed to apply academic knowledge to an actual work environment. The 492 course number is used in all departments to indicate internships. Internship credit must have educational benefit and be a genuine work experience. It involves the application of learned skills, the integration of theory and practice, the assessment of education as it relates to the specific work experience, and examination of the nature and values of the organization or agency that is the setting of the work experience. Credit is not given for on-the-job work, but for the demonstrated reflection and learning. Students work with a faculty advisor, an on-site supervisor, and the Career Services Center. Course grade (Pass/No Credit only) is based on job performance and evidence of learning. To take advantage of this opportunity students must follow the guidelines listed below.

  1. Get an internship.

  2. Pick up Cooperative Education Agreement Form from Career Center and turn into Registrar after all sections have been filled out completely.

  3. Deadline to obtain an internship for Coop credits is the last day to add a class for the semester. You need to register and pay for just like you are taking a class. This includes summer when you are not taking any other courses.

Internships must be related to a student’s major. Students must have a 2.5 GPA to participate. Freshmen students are not eligible (students must have a minimum of 28 credits completed).

How many hours for how many credits?

5 hours of work per week is required for each semester credit (except summer). 10 hours of work per week (during the 6 week summer session) is required per semester credit. Students can spread hours over the entire summer.

Students may receive a maximum of 4 credits in a semester (or summer) and may take a total of no more than 8 credits in internships. The amount of credit for each course is determined by faculty.
