José Marichal is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at California Lutheran University. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Colorado in 2003. His areas of teaching and research interest include public deliberation and policymaking, social networking and community development, civic engagement and race/ethnic politics. His current research focus examines the relationship between university efforts to promote racial and ethnic diversity and university efforts to promote civic engagement. His work has appeared in Policy Studies Review, Race Gender and Class and Urban Affairs Review. Currently he is a board member of El Concilio del Condado de Ventura and is chair of the Ventura County Latino HIV/AIDS Social Mapping Task Force.

Russell Stockard is an Assistant Professor of Communication. Dr. Stockard's research projects include the African Diaspora and the Internet, globalization, ecocriticism and communication, and the social construction of disaster, which is also Sociology/Communications special topics course.
