Faculty Steering Committee

The Faculty Steering Committee helps to shape the direction and agenda of the Center each academic year. Given the collaborative nature of the CEJ, a robust Faculty Steering Committee is fundamental to the success of the Center. This Committee is composed of the CEJ Director, CEJ Associate Director, Faculty Steering Committee Members, and Advisory Members.

Responsibilities

Commitment per academic year to attend at least half of the Faculty Steering Committee meetings per semester (including retreats) for the purposes of one or all of the following:

  • Advising the work of the Director and Associate Director
  • Communicating the work of the Faculty Working Groups
  • Event planning and information sharing
  • Assisting the Director and/or Associate Director with center-wide initiatives
  • Deliberation and voting on matters concerning the Center
  • Evaluating the work of the Director and Associate Director on an annual basis
Benefits
  • Invited to all CEJ Faculty Steering Committee meetings
  • Enrolled in the CEJ-FAC listserv
  • Voting privileges on CEJ policies/procedures/elections
  • Eligible to be nominated for elected CEJ positions
  • Eligible to apply for CEJ grants
  • May propose events to be sponsored/co-sponsored by the CEJ (CEJ-sponsored/co-sponsored events typically receive event planning assistance from the CEJ Associate Director and Student Program Coordinators and often also receive some funding support)

CEJ-Affiliated Faculty Members

Other Cal Lutheran ranked faculty members, not including adjunct and visiting faculty, who are invested in the CEJ’s mission and objectives but are not able to meet the expectations of Faculty Steering Committee members may choose to make an annual commitment to the following responsibilities and are entitled to the following benefits:

Responsibilities

Commitment per academic year to do the following:

  • Attend at least one Faculty Steering Committee meeting or CEJ retreat per semester for the purposes of serving in an advisory capacity to the Director, Associate Director, and Faculty Steering Committee
  • Contribute time and energy to a CEJ Working Group, the planning of a CEJ-sponsored event, a project connected to the current or forthcoming CEJ Annual Theme Committee, or a center-wide initiative
Benefits
  • Invited to attend CEJ FSC meetings
  • Enrolled in the CEJ-FAC listserv
  • May nominate members of the FSC to run for elected CEJ positions
  • Eligible to apply for CEJ grants (once grants receive external funding)
  • May propose events to be sponsored/co-sponsored by the CEJ (CEJ-sponsored/co-sponsored events typically receive event planning assistance from the CEJ Associate Director and Student Program Coordinators and often also receive some funding support)

Advisory FSC Members

This is primarily a role for Cal Lutheran administrators, staff members and faculty (who are unranked, adjunct, and/or visiting) whose interests align with those of the CEJ and choose to make an annual commitment to the following responsibilities and are entitled to the following benefits:

Note: Advisory FSC Members who have an administrative or staff position and are also Cal Lutheran ranked faculty, not including adjunct and visiting faculty, may concurrently serve in one of the CEJ faculty roles described above.
