What to Expect

Students who have not been to counseling may want to know what will happen at SCS. We follow a uniform set of procedures which make up our screening process:
  • A student can call or walk in to set up an appointment.  If a student needs to be seen immediately, we will assess the level of severity promptly and will see the student within the next 45 minutes, depending on the level of severity and availability of staff.
  • During his or her first appointment, the student completes a personal information form and statement of informed consent that describes the intake process, confidentiality, and other procedures.
  • The student is introduced to a counselor who will conduct the initial interview, which takes up to 45 minutes.
  • The counselor will help the student explore what brought him or her to Student Counseling Services and what the student would like to achieve in counseling. The Counseling Services staff member will discuss with the student how SCS can best assist the student.

Recordings of Sessions

All therapists seeking to become a licensed psychologist must have their work supervised for a period of time. The way the supervision takes place is sometimes by a licensed psychologist viewing or listening to a recording of a session. For this reason, CLU's pre-licensure therapists sometimes record their sessions. THIS IS NEVER DONE UNTIL AFTER THE CLIENT HAS CONSENTED IN WRITING.
