Meet the Staff
Elaine has been the Director of the Fredrickson Family Early Childhood Center since 2000; however she has worked here, previously as a teacher, since 1986. Elaine graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor's in Social Work. After getting married and moving from Ohio to California in 1975, she obtained her Master's in Counseling from CLU. All 3 of her adult children, Nicole, Jared, and Matthew, attended the preschool. Elaine enjoys spending her off-time with her husband, children and five grandchildren, Kayden, twins Kai and Olivia, Ella, and Mayson. She also enjoys camping, biking, hiking, and being outdoors!
Miriam has worked in the Toddler Room since 1988. Toddlers are her favorites! She grew up in northern Illinois, graduated from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, and has taught in Georgia, Michigan, Japan, Bangkok, and California. She has been married to Kiyo Nakayama for over 25 years and they have two daughters, Katie and Anna. Both girls are alumni of the preschool.
Ligia was born in Costa Rica, but has lived in California since 1981. She has worked in our Toddler room since 2000. She particularly likes putting together the end-of-the year CD with pictures and music for each of the Toddlers. Ligia has been married for over 25 years and has two sons; both graduates of California Lutheran University.
Heidi has been studying and working in the Early Childhood Education Field for 7 years, and considers it a great privilege to be a part of our Preschool Team. She has been married to her husband for 29 years, and has a 24 year old daughter and a 17 year old son. In her free time she loves to read and to knit.
Shelly is one of our awesome substitute teachers. She is happily married to her husband, Guy, and they have two grown sons. Her first grandchild was born this year! Shelly has been caring for children for over 30 years, and holds an AA Degree in Child Development from Moorpark College. In her free time, she loves to do crafts and crochet.
Jim is one of our regular substitute teachers and our resident gardener. He has worked in the Early Childhood Field for over 5 years, has an AS Degree in Early Childhood Development and a BA Degree in Biological Science from UCSB. He has been married to his wife for 30 years, and they have 3 grown children. He enjoys researching genealogy, reading stories, being outdoors, nurturing children, and gardening at home, at our school and at the Conejo Valley Botanic Garden.
Jenni teaches the young five's/older fours class at the Fredrickson Family Early Childhood Center. She graduated from CLU with a Liberal Arts degree in 1996 and has taught at the center for 17 years. Jenni is married to Brian McCoy and together they have two daughters; Ashley and Brittany. Both of her girls started their education at the 'House on the Hill" and she very much loves teaching here every day!
Cheryl has worked in the Early Childhood field for over 16 years and has been with the Fredrickson Family Early Childhood Center for over 5 years. She is currently a teacher on the four-year-old team. She has 3 adult children; both of her daughters are graduates of CLU. Cheryl continues to work toward her BA degree and enjoys reading, watching old movies, and cross stitching.
Charlene has worked at the center since 2002. She grew up and attended school in Southern California. She has an AS Degree in Early Childhood Development and maintains a Master Teacher certificate with the state of California. She has been married to Brian for over 30 years and has a daughter who graduated from CLU in 2007.
Sofia is one of our loving, nurturing Infant Teachers. She has many years experience in the Early Childhood field and has worked at the FFECC since 2006. She and Bruce have been married for over 35 years and have two adult children; TJ and Theresa. Her hobbies include spending time with her grandson, Wyatt, and working with her parents at the family winery in San Luis Obispo.
Faten has been teaching at the Fredrickson Family Early Childhood Center since 2000. She is married and has two children, Matthew and Mary. She has a BA in English Literature and has many courses in Early Childhood education. She enjoys the outdoors and particularly likes to work in the garden, here at school and at home.
Ashley has worked in the 3's program at CLU since 2008. She obtained her Bachelor's degree from the University of La Verne and is currently working on her Master's in Education. In her free time, she enjoys spending time as a newlywed with her husband and family and friends; golfing, reading, and traveling.
Kristine has worked in the Early Childhood field since 1989. She enjoys every minute of her day as a teacher, and has experience as a preschool center director, preschool program accreditation facilitator and Early Childhood Program Specialist through the Ventura County Office of Education. She earned her BA in Liberal Studies at the University of La Verne and is pursuing a Master's Degree in Education. In her free time, she is active in her children's school and as a Girl Scout leader. She mostly enjoys spending time hiking, traveling, and going to the beach with her husband and 3 children.
Maggie has worked at the center since 2001 and has taught all age groups. Currently she is part of our awesome Infant team. Maggie has a Bachelor's Degree from Cal State Northridge with an emphasis in Early Childhood Development. She has lived in southern California her entire life and is a "true" California girl. She enjoys surfing, participating in half marathons, and spending time with her family.
Hafiza is a teacher in the four -year -old classroom. She is a new teacher here, however, she taught preschool in Santa Barbara for the last eight years. She currently holds her BA in Liberal Studies, with an emphasis on Early Childhood Education. Hafiza lives with her husband, Bryce, and their five children, newborn Finnley, Zoey, Keagan, Callan, and Ian. In her free time Hafiza enjoys spending time playing with her family.
