Educators from three counties attend summer literacy program in T.O.Speaker discusses importance of vocabularyMonday, August 8, 2011The Acorn 07-28-2011 The California Reading and Literature Project hosted its inaugural summer literacy workshop for educators titled “ Literacy Empowerment for Universal Access” on June 28 at California Lutheran University. The seminar offered a variety of workshops related to literacy in K-12 classrooms. More than 180 educators from Ventura, Kern and Los Angeles counties attended the all-day event. Dr. John Shefelbine, professor in the Department of Teacher Education at Cal State Sacramento, gave the keynote presentation titled “The Hidden Role of Vocabulary and Background Knowledge in Meeting State Standards.” CRLP will host another summer literacy workshop next year on June 21.
