About
Kari A. Meyers received her Master of Arts in Sociology from California State University Northridge (CSUN). Her graduate research focus and publications were in the areas of gender research, family law, gang-related behavior and youth subcultures. Since 2006, Kari has taught in the Sociology and Psychology Departments of CSUN, Moorpark College and most recently, California Lutheran University. Service learning and community outreach are integral components of her classroom curriculum and requirements. She also serves as Faculty Advisor for the students of Moorpark College. Additionally, since 2006, Kari has worked as the Valley Trauma Center’s Prevention Education and Community Outreach Coordinator where she supervises staff, student interns and volunteers in delivering prevention education presentations, workshops, programs and trainings to the communities of the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys. On behalf of the Valley Trauma Center, she has twice been awarded a Golden Apple Award for prevention work with public school districts. In collaboration with community partners, Kari has organized two Walk A Mile In Her Shoes men’s marches to raise awareness that men can stop rape and end the violence against women and six annual children’s safety fairs to make greatly-needed services and information available to families living in communities where they might not be aware of such services.
