About
Ellyn Goldstein earned her BA at University of California at Berkeley in Anthropology. She went on to receive her MBA at UCLA and worked for over twenty years in financial services. During that time she became active in a national support organization for couples having difficulty conceiving. This led her to return to graduate school in the field of Marriage and Family Therapy, and ultimately becoming a licensed marriage and family therapist. Professor Goldstein has been active in the Ventura County Chapter of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, having served on the Board of Directors for ten years and serving as President in 2011 and 2013.
Education
Professor Goldstein received her MS in Marriage and Family Therapy at California Lutheran University. She worked in the counseling center on campus during her practicum, as well as at an externship at the Adoption Support Center in Los Angeles, where she facilitated support groups for adoptive parents. She has received post-graduate education in Parent Child Interaction Therapy, EMDR, Comprehensive Resource Model, and several other treatment approaches for trauma.
Expertise
After earning her MS, Professor Goldstein worked for ten years at a non-profit organization in Ventura County. At the agency, she worked in an emergency shelter for abused women and children doing both individual and group therapy. In addition, she facilitated groups for sexually abused children and their non-offending parents. She became trained in Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), which is an evidence-based dyadic therapy to strengthen parent skills and the parent-child relationship, and served as the agency trainer to train therapists in conducting PCIT. She also facilitated 52-week intensive parenting training classes, and she served as clinical program manager and clinical supervisor at the agency.
Professor Goldstein began conducting clinical supervision with CLU MFT students and teaching the Recovery Model specialization in 2011. She taught the Recovery Model for three years. In 2014 she developed and began teaching the specialization class in Psychological Trauma. She continues to supervise students in their practicum at the Westlake Counseling Center.
