goal in as many games in the 73rd minute.

Held
scoreless throughout the first 18 games of the season, Wagner ended his senior
season by scoring CLU's only goal in back-to-back home games against Occidental and UC Santa Cruz.

Other
seniors also competing in their final game for Cal Lutheran Sunday night were
defender Josh Hibbert, midfielders Patrick McCoy, and Cody Yan.

Racing
down the field on CLU forward Raul Yepez' one-on-one scoring opportunity,
Wagner rushed towards the middle of the Banana Slugs' penalty area once he saw
his teammate's shot bounce off the left post and roll across UCSC's goal.

Beating
all Santa Cruz defenders to the loose ball, Wagner wasted no time in scoring
Cal Lutheran's first goal of the game, a shot that became the final goal recorded by a Kingsmen this season once the game concluded.

Tying
their respective season-highs with seven and four shots, Yepez and Wagner fueled
a Cal Lutheran offense that ended Sunday's contest with 19 shots to its credit. Of
those 19 opportunities, 16 were recorded in the second half.

Also
finishing the game with 19 shots, Santa Cruz responded to Wagner's goal seven
minutes later by recording its third goal of the evening, returning UCSC's lead to
a 3-1 margin that would remain untouched throughout the final 10 minutes of the
game.

In
addition to earning Cal Lutheran's only assist against the Banana Slugs, Yepez nearly
earned his sixth goal of the season on two occasions in the second half.

Caught
off-guard on two of Yepez' shots, Santa Cruz goalkeeper Nate Levenson would
have easily been beaten by the CLU forward had the ball not bounced off the crossbar, and left post, back into play.

Levinson
finished with nine saves, while his Cal Lutheran counterpart Chris Holm ended his
evening with six.

Finishing

1- F

Trailing 2-0 in the 64th minute after allowing Occidental forward John
Richardson to score his second goal of the day, CLU midfielder Iggy Wagner responded
two minutes later to cut the Tigers' lead back to a one-goal margin with 24
minutes still remaining in the game.

The
goal was Wagner's first as a Kingsmen, earning his second assist of the season
on the play was defender Enrique Zaragoza.

Responsible
for seven of the final nine shots recorded in Saturday's SCIAC finale, Wagner's
goal helped jump-start Cal Lutheran's offense as most of the action in those
final 24 minutes took place on Occidental's half of the field.

Earning
three of their eight corner kicks throughout that timespan, the Kingsmen almost
tied the match on two occasions.

Josh
Hibbert nearly helped midfielder Danny Kuntz earn his first assist of the
season; turning Kuntz' corner kick into a one-time scoring opportunity, Tigers'
goalkeeper Andrew Larkin could only stand and watch as Hibbert's shot deflected
off a player's leg back into the field of play

Were
it not for an Occidental defender who happened to be in the right place, at the
right time, the Kingsmen would have tied the game at 2-2. Instead, Occidental
recorded the last of its two team saves to preserve its 2-1 lead.

Finishing
the day with four of his team's 24 shots, Cal Lutheran forward Raul Yepez
nearly netted his sixth goal of the season moments later during his late-game,
one-on-one scoring opportunity.

Forcing
Larkin to make the first move on the play, Yepez was almost able to switch
directions on a dime and flick his shot towards an open goal. Instead, the
Occidental netminder was able to deflect Yepez' shot a split-second before both
players collided into one another, forcing the ball to trickle out-of-bounds
after deflecting off the left goalpost.

Led
by Yepez, 12 different players recorded at least one shot in Saturday's game as
the Kingsmen outshot their opponents by a 24-23 margin.

Setting
a new season high for the second time in as many games, CLU goalkeeper Chris
Holm finished his afternoon with nine saves.

Ending
its SCIAC schedule in seventh place with a 3-11-0 conference record, Cal
Lutheran (3-16-0) will compete in its final home game of the season on Sunday, Oct.
30, against UC Santa Cruz (8-8-0).

Kick-off at William Rolland

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Three-second-half
goals scored by Redlands within 16 minutes from one another were enough to
create a deficit too large for Cal Lutheran to overcome as the visiting
Bulldogs defeated the Kingsmen 4-0 Sunday afternoon.

Box Score: UR 4, CLU 0 - F

With
both teams participating in their second game in as many days, it was the Bulldogs
who were able to organize themselves on offense first, scoring the first goal
of the afternoon just nine minutes into the match.

From
that point on, the Cal Lutheran offense began to work as a cohesive unit, and
was able to generate numerous scoring opportunities throughout the remainder of
the half.

Responsible
for three of the Kingsmen's 10 shots, and two of his team's six shots on goal,
junior forward Raul Yepez forced Bulldogs goalkeeper Andreas Silver to make the
saves needed to preserve UR's one-goal advantage.

Trailing
by one after the first 45 minute session, Cal Lutheran was able to pick up
exactly where they left off prior to the break, and continued to attack the
Bulldogs back-line.

Also
finishing with three shots, all of which were on-goal, freshman midfielder
Tyler Pascoe was the one Kingsmen able to consistently test Silver throughout
the second half in his attempt to record CLU's equalizer.

But
it was a goal scored by Redlands in the 64th minute that ended up being the ultimate
difference in the match.

From
the start of the second half until that moment, the Kingsmen simply out-hustled
the Bulldogs, won a majority of 50/50 opportunities, and played a more
aggressive style of soccer in comparison to their opponents.

Showing
visible signs of frustration to the crowd at Mt. Clef Stadium throughout the
first 20 minutes of the second half, it was Cal Lutheran that became frustrated
once UR doubled its lead as the Kingsmen were now forced to reassign their
personnel accordingly in an attempt to reduce their deficit back to one.

With
CLU now looking to take additional chances on offense in an attempt to score
its first goal of the match, the Bulldogs were able to capitalize on the
Kingsmen's aggressiveness and were able to score its final two goals eight
minutes from one another off their counterattack.

Starting
with Wednesday's 4:00 p.m. game at Occidental (2-7, 2-4 SCIAC), Cal Lutheran
(1-9, 1-5 SCIAC) will play its next four games on the road before returning to
Mt.
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - A goal
scored by Pomona-Pitzer in the 84th minute was the difference in Cal Lutheran's
Saturday afternoon match as the Kingsmen were defeated by a final score of 1-0
in the first of back-to-back home games taking place at Mt. Clef Stadium this
weekend.

Box Score: P-P 1, CLU 0 - F

Were it not for
two shots that missed its intended target by inches, Cal Lutheran may have been
the team to leave Mt. Clef Stadium victorious against the visiting Sagehens.

Looking to jump
out to an early lead, Cal Lutheran nearly scored the game's first goal only 11
minutes into the match when sophomore midfielder Luis Santana successfully
redirected a pass taken on a corner kick by junior midfielder Danny Kuntz that
easily eluded the outstretched hands of Pomona-Pitzer goalkeeper Rollie Thayer.

Unfortunately for
Santana and Kuntz, a Sagehens defender that was guarding the back post was able
to sprint across the Pomona-Pitzer goal and make the save needed to preserve
the scoreless tie, robbing Santana and Kuntz from what otherwise would have
been their second goal and first assist of the season.

Originating from
another corner kick, this one taken by sophomore midfielder Ivan Sanchez midway
through the second half, Kingsmen midfielder Tyler Pascoe nearly gave his team
the lead again on another header that Thayer had zero chance of saving or
deflecting.

Instead of
celebrating his first-ever goal scored as a Kingsmen, all the freshman could do
was watch his header squarely hit the far post and ricochet back into the field
of play.

Led by Pascoe and
his four shots, seven different Kingsmen were responsible for the team's 14
shots taken against Pomona-Pitzer.

Cal Lutheran
(1-8, 1-4 SCIAC) will complete its weekend against the Redlands Bulldogs (8-3,
5-0 SCIAC) Sunday afternoon, kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

Halftime Deficit Dooms Kingsmen

Cal Lutheran senior Patrick McCoy scored in the 71st minute in hopes of sparking a comeback attempt.
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Over 175 youth AYSO soccer players
invaded the campus to participate in AYSO Day hosted by the men's and women's
soccer teams.

Less than a day after earning
matching 5-0 victories against La Verne on Saturday, coaches and players from
both of Cal Lutheran's soccer programs returned to Mt. Clef Stadium to interact
with youth soccer players from Thousand Oaks AYSO.

"This is soccer in its purest form," stated Region 9 AYSO Treasurer Tom Skaff
who, in addition to Cal Lutheran men's soccer head coach Dan Kuntz and women's
soccer head coach Frank Marino helped organize the free clinic. "This is a day
these children will remember for the rest of their lives. The smiles on their
faces are priceless and are worth all the time and energy invested to make this
morning a reality."

For three hours, boys and girls
ages 6-16 joined over 65 Cal Lutheran student-athletes in a variety of
activities and exercises designed to help further develop everyone's dribbling,
passing, heading, ball control, and shooting skills.

Originally created in 1994, this
complimentary soccer clinic evolved into a yearly event until numerous changes
within AYSO's administration forced organizers to temporarily suspend their
efforts.

Resurrected in 2010 thanks to the
collaborative efforts of Skaff, Kuntz, and Marino, the trio are currently
developing a plan to offer multiple clinics throughout the year at Cal Lutheran.

"This is a great way to build a
connection with the community and enhance our social environment. Our students
get to learn more about the development of young kids, and the children get to
interact with soccer players who are positive role models both on and off the
field," said Kuntz.

In addition to providing a fun and
exciting way for families to enjoy their morning, Sunday's clinic also provided
Cal Lutheran student-athletes an opportunity to relive similar moments from
their youth, albeit from a different perspective.

"I remember coming to camps like
this when I was little," said Kingsmen sophomore midfielder Alexis Avila.
"These camps were fun and sparked something inside of me to keep playing
soccer."

"When I was young, I wanted to be
just like the older soccer players - they were bigger, they were faster, they
were better. Now that I am older I want to show these kids how much fun it is
to play soccer at any age, I want to be that example for these kids to look up
to," explained Regals senior defender Sam Van Gorder.

Those on the field were not the
only ones having fun throughout the morning, friends and family members
stationed alongside each sideline were often caught cheering for and
encouraging their loved one(s) as groups rotated around the field from one
activity to the next.

"I brought my two grandsons, Clark
and Luke Seldin, to this event last year and they both loved it," said Vivian
March-Seldin. "Even though it was a foggy and wet morning, they could not wait
to come back and participate this year."

Leading his team to victory in La
Verne less than 12 hours before taking the pitch at Mt. Clef, even Marino found
it difficult to contain his excitement; as one of the three individuals responsible
for organizing the event, he could not help but switch roles on occasion to
enjoy the morning from an entirely different point-of-view.

"I am excited that my son is old
enough to be participating, and I think it is great for him and other
boys and girls out here to work alongside such positive role models from the

In addition to Kurzon who is
now tied with junior forward Raul Yepez with a team-high three goals, senior
defender Josh Hibbert, freshman midfielder David Lee, and sophomore forward
Kevin Tanner all earned their first career goal in Saturday afternoon's
contest.

Kurzon's goals were scored in the 40th and 53rd minute, with his trio of teammates finding the back of the net in the sixth, 50th, and 76th
minutes.

As successful as Cal Lutheran was on both sides of the pitch against La Verne, Saturday's final score may have looked a little different were it not for the efforts of Tyler Pascoe.

Successfully stripping the ball away from one of La Verne's forwards in the final minutes of the first half, the freshman midifelder then dribbled his way along the sideline past both benches, and forced the Leopards' back-line to make a crucial decision.

Those defenders could either focus their efforts on Pascoe and force him towards the corner in an attempt to slow the CLU attack, or sit back and defend against the onslaught of Kingsmen that were racing towards La Verne's goal.

Once La Verne made its decision, Pascoe reacted accordingly, delivering a pinpoint pass that Kurzon successfully redirected moments later to double CLU's lead.

Called upon in the second half to take one of CLU's 10 corner kicks, Pascoe earned his second point of the afternoon when Lee transformed his pass across the La Verne penalty area into CLU's third goal.

Of the nine La Verne shots, sophomore goalkeeper Rey Rivera-Ramos needed to only make one
save to preserve CLU's shutout, and earn his first career victory.

Cal Lutheran finished with a total of 17 shots.

The next game for Cal
Lutheran (1-6, 1-2 SCIAC) will take place at Whittier (2-5, 2-2 SCIAC) this
Wednesday, September 28.
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Even though Cal Lutheran was able to take an
early 1-0 lead, two Caltech goals scored in the second half helped the Beavers
escape Mt. Clef Stadium with a 2-1 win.

A header from Lucas Kurzon in the 14th
minute off a well-placed corner kick from teammate David Lee helped Cal
Lutheran jump out to an early 1-0 lead.

Timing his jump perfectly to redirect Lee’s pass, Kurzon leapt over the
group of players stationed in front of Caltech’s net, beating Beavers
goalkeeper Wesley Swank to score his first goal since 2009.

The assist was Lee’s first as a Kingsmen.

But two Caltech goals scored within 33 seconds of one another midway through
the second half ended up being the difference in Wednesday’s game as the
Beavers were then able to pack their own penalty area, prevent Cal Lutheran
from scoring the equalizer and preserve their lead.

The decisive play itself was an unusual and unlucky one for Cal Lutheran;
Beavers forward Mitchel Arene was able to somehow make the most of 50-50
breakaway opportunity, nicking a once-loose ball in the direction of CLU's goal
mere moments before running into two Cal Lutheran players also engaged in a
full-on sprint of their own.

With players falling to the turf after crashing into one another, and
everyone else on the field of play still running towards CLU's net in an
attempt to catch-up to the mass of student-athletes entangled just inside the
Kingsmen's penalty area, Arene's initial touch provided just enough momentum
for the ball to trickle over the goal line and break a 1-1 tie.

Cal Lutheran (0-6, 0-2 SCIAC) will return to

ORANGE, Calif. - Three Chapman goals scored midway through the
second half within a ten minute block of time created a deficit too large for Cal
Lutheran to overcome as the Panthers defeated the visiting Kingsmen 4-0 Monday
evening.

having a losing a player on a red card, Cal Lutheran was able to quickly regain
its composure to remain only one goal down at halftime.

Outnumbered on the pitch, CLU successfully matched the efforts of Chapman for
the following 32 minutes before Panthers forward Nick Echeverry doubled his
team’s lead in the 69th minute.

That goal was the first of three scored by the Panthers within ten minutes
from one another, creating a lead that would remain untouched for the remainder
of the match.

Kingsmen defender Enrique Zaragoza led CLU with two shots, forwards Raul Yepez,
Kevin Tanner, defenders Timo Ros, and Brennan Redd each finished with one shot

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Leading 1-0 with 30 minutes
left in its SCIAC opener, Cal Lutheran was unable to neutralize the
scoring threat of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps forward David Taylor as he
netted all three goals for the Stags to help defeat the Kingsmen 3-1
Wednesday afternoon.

Box Score: CMS 3, CLU 1 - F

CLU was the first to take the lead in the 60th minute thanks to some fancy footwork initially displayed by forward Raul Yepez.

Outrunning the entire CMS defense on a Stags pass that deflected
towards their goal, Yepez successfully gained control of a loose ball
and employed enough touch on his chip shot to elude the reach of
oncoming CMS goalkeeper Frederick Doar.

The goal was his team-high third of the season, earning his first
assist of the season with a textbook lob pass to Yepez was midfielder
Luis Santana.

Before the Kingsmen were even able to make the necessary adjustments on
defense to help protect its slim advantage, Taylor tied the game at one
apiece as CMS sent a flurry of players towards the Cal Lutheran penalty
area the moment play resumed, tying the match at one apiece just 14
seconds after the Kingsmen took the lead.

Within a handful of minutes Cal Lutheran's one-goal lead evolved into a
one-goal deficit when Taylor's next shot somehow weaved its way through
a pack of players battling for position in front of the CLU goal to
give the visitors a 2-1 lead.

Cal Lutheran's most dangerous scoring opportunity of the second half
took place in the 69th minute when a header from midfielder Ivan Sanchez
that bounced off the crossbar was followed by a shot from midfielder
Luis Santana. Had it not been redirected at the last moment by a diving
Doar, the game would have been tied once again.

CMS added to its lead in the 74th minute on a penalty shot that was successfully converted by Taylor.

Cal Lutheran (0-4) will return to action this Saturday, September 19,
in a non-conference road match against Chapman (5-0), kick-off is
scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
