Application & Agreement

The Commission may assume up to $11,000 in outstanding educational loan balances in return for four consecutive years teaching service. Assumption of student loan payments to lenders are disbursed up to $2,000 after completion of first full school year of eligible teaching, and up to $3,000 each year after completion of the second, third and fourth full years of eligible teaching (for a total of $11,000).

APLE participants who provide designated teaching service in the areas of math, science, or education specialist instruction and provide teaching service in a California public school ranked in the lowest 60% of the Academic Performance Index (API) are eligible to receive an additional $1,000 bonus per year in loan assumption benefits, for a possible total loan assumption benefit of up to $15,000. Participants meeting this teaching service requirement who provide teaching service in a California public school ranked in the lowest 20% of the Academic Performance Index (API) are eligible to receive an additional $1,000 bonus per year for a possible total loan assumption benefit of up to $19,000.

Participants are allowed a maximum of one (1) calendar year leave of absence due to serious illness, pregnancy, active military status, layoffs, reassignment, natural causes or reasons beyond the control of the participant (must be approved by CSAC).
