Giving to CLU

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I support Cal Lutheran?

Giving is a personal decision and each person who gives to Cal Lutheran has their own answer to that question. In addition to your daily contributions of energy and effort, a financial contribution is a different and important way to demonstrate your investment in Cal Lutheran and its students.

The number of reasons for giving are diverse but all reflect a sincere belief in the work being done here at Cal Lutheran. Ultimately, your participation in the CLU Annual Fund is a vote of confidence in the University and its future. Any gift you make will contribute to a sense of partnership and pride across campus...and beyond.

How much should I give?

You determine the size and designation of your gift according to your own charitable interests, your personal willingness to give, and your financial capacity. No gift is too small. Donor Recognition Levels have been established to recognize alumni, parents, employees and friends who exhibit leadership through their contributions to CLU.

Since the generosity of our club members plays a vital role in CLU's future, we invite you to consider membership at one of our Donor Recognition Levels. It's your participation in the effort that matters.

What can I give to?

You have many choices but we could not begin to list them all. Many donors choose to make an unrestricted gift, those not restricted for a specific purpose and therefore directed where the need is greatest. Unrestricted gifts also enable the University to take advantage of unexpected opportunities. Other donors choose to make a gift in support of a certain department or program.

How can I give?

There are many ways to make a gift to Cal Lutheran. You can contact the CLU Annual Fund Office at
(805) 493-3829 for information about making a gift via:

  • Payroll deduction
  • Check (payable to the CLU Annual Fund)
  • Credit card
  • Appreciated securities and bonds
  • Bequests
  • Life insurance
How does payroll deduction work?

Payroll deduction is one of the fastest, easiest and most convenient ways to make a gift. By completing the payroll deduction section on the Cal Lutheran Pledge Form, you specify the amount you would like automatically deducted from each paycheck, the start date, and where your support should be designated. You can have an amount deducted until further notice or until a specific total has been reached. The form can be obtained from the Annual Fund Office.

Can I make a gift jointly with my spouse?

Of course. A number of Cal Lutheran employees have spouses who work here as well; or the spouse is an alumnus/a but not a Cal Lutheran employee. It is your choice whether to make your gift as an individual or as a couple.
