Foundations & Scholarships

Through Scholarships

In addition to the financial aid provided through University grants, CLU is able to award many scholarships that are the result of thoughtful gifts from generous donors. These are listed in CLU's "Honor Roll of Scholarships," which is part of a brochure called LIFELINE - THE GIFT OF LEARNING. This brochure describes the process for establishing a scholarship — either endowed or annually funded — at California Lutheran University and is available upon request from the address below.

HONORS DAY is an event held toward the end of the spring semester to honor student achievements. A highlight of the Convocation is the announcement of the first-time recipients of the new scholarships. Donors who have created new scholarships receive special recognition and meet their student scholars.

Through Memorial Gifts

An increasingly popular way of honoring a deceased friend or loved one, or even to remember an anniversary or birthday, is by making a memorial gift to that person's favorite cause, which is often CLU. There may be a scholarship already in place, or some other special fund, but CLU is ready and able to accommodate those gifts. If the information is provided, notification is sent to the person or family to advise them of the thoughtful gift.

Through Other Types of Restricted Giving

In addition to scholarships, there are other ways to leave a lasting legacy at CLU. Endowments provide a permanent source of revenue because the principal of the fund remains intact while the earnings are utilized for purposes designated by the donor — such as endowed programs, professorships, or academic chairs. If endowments don't appeal to you, you might consider making a restricted gift to a particular academic department, or to one of our established centers, such as the Segerhammar Center for Faith and Culture or the Center for Leadership and Values. Even regular events on campus welcome additional support.

Matching Your Gifts

Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match any charitable contributions made by their employees. To find out if your company has a matching gift policy, visit our Matching Gifts website at http://www.matchinggifts.com/clu/.
