Position Title
Assistant Professor in Theatre Design

Basic Function
Available for the Academic Year: 2013-2014. (Start date: Fall 2013)
Teaching Load: 12 credits of teaching load each semester. One four-credit course each semester in design. 8 credits of production design release or teaching other classes within the Theatre Arts major. Candidate will design and/or supervise scenery, lighting and sound design for 2-3 Mainstage productions each year, and advise/supervise design and production of student Black Box productions each semester.
Representative Duties
The successful candidate will teach courses in scenic design, lighting design, and introduction to theatre design and production. The candidate will supervise the design and production program in cooperation with the faculty costume designer and with the assistance of the staff technical director.
Must have strong training and expertise in broad and diverse areas of theatre production: scenery construction and painting, lighting production, rigging, and basic audio techniques, in order to supervise technical production. Will be responsible for production budget and expenditures. The candidate will oversee for maintenance, repair, updating and improvement of Theatre Arts tools, equipment, and facilities.
Education and Experience
An appropriate terminal degree (M.F.A. or earned doctorate) is the expected academic preparation for the position. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree and extensive professional experience and accomplishments relative to the duties of the position may be considered.
Experience in scenic design is required, along with expertise in at least one other area such as lighting design, sound design, or stage management. Must have competence in CAD and be able to teach fundamentals of Vectorworks to theatre students.
