Basic Function
The director serves as chief academic and administrative leader of the Adult Degree Evening Program (ADEP) for returning undergraduate students, and site coordinator for CLU’s Oxnard and Woodland Hills Centers. The director also has responsibility for CLU’s small professional and continuing education programs. The director reports directly to the provost and is a member of major administrative and academic committees.

The Adult Degree Evening Program at California Lutheran University is designed for working adults who complete their bachelor’s degree in evening classes scheduled year-round in four 11-week terms. The program offers majors in Accounting, Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Liberal Studies, Organizational Leadership, and Psychology. Classes are offered at the Thousand Oaks main campus, and at the CLU Centers in Oxnard and Woodland Hills. The Organizational Leadership major is also offered fully online.

The director oversees faculty recruitment and faculty-student relations, and provides leadership in faculty development activities. The director also provides leadership for enrollment goal achievement, retention strategies, marketing/promotion activities, budget management, and excellence in student learning and services. The director hires and supervises staff who are responsible for advising ADEP students and oversees staff at the Oxnard and Woodland Hills Centers. The director works closely with deans and department chairs to hire faculty and coordinate course offerings. As an external representative and spokesperson for CLU programs, the director maintains contacts with local education agencies and the community at large. The director works with faculty, staff and the university community to achieve its goals and to build and sustain strong collaborative relationships throughout the university. Applicants should have the administrative ability to balance the unique needs of adult learners with the importance of integrating them into a vibrant university culture.

An earned doctorate or equivalent terminal degree is required, in addition to successful teaching and administrative experience. The candidate must be entrepreneurial in vision and collaborative in style and should have experience with adult education theory, best practices, policies and procedures, experience working with faculty in an adult learning environment, and the ability to advance the university's mission by building cooperative relationships both internal and external to the university. CLU’s newly adopted 2012-2017 strategic plan calls for significantly increased enrollment for ADEP and graduate programs through new recruitment strategies and new sites. The plan also includes expansion of hybrid and fully online programs for graduate and nontraditional undergraduate students. New marketing and branding opportunities are anticipated for the ADEP program. Candidates must have excellent oral and written communication skills and represent the university articulately, professionally, and effectively. A demonstrated commitment to academic excellence, collaboration, diversity and the mission of the university is essential. Experience with the culture of a small, independent institution with a mission grounded in a tradition of faith would be a valuable asset.

The director position has faculty status, is year-long, and requires teaching one class per year.
