Position Title
Assistant Athletic Trainer (NATABOC certification required) --20 hours a week for 10 months
Department

Basic Function
Under the direction of the Director of Athletics with direct reporting responsibilities to the Head Athletic Trainer, assist with health care needs of men and women’s intercollegiate sports and the clinical education of undergraduate student athletic trainers. This is a half-time, ten month position.
Representative Duties
• Provide preventative and therapeutic treatments (or athletic training coverage) as assigned by the head athletic trainer for University athletic teams. This includes weekend and evening assignments. E
• Perform skills at the level expected of an entry level athletic trainer as outlined by the NATABOC and NATA Educational Council. E
• Communicate with continuing and prospective students in person and on the telephone E
• Assist the team physician with preseason physical examinations.. E
• Supervise student athletic trainers during clinical rotations. E
• Attend athletic training meetings. E
• Perform related duties as assigned. E
Knowledge Of
Sports medicine and related field.
Body mechanics principles, flexibility and strength training.
Basic elements of pedagogy of Sports Medicine
Goals and objectives of assigned activity.
Operation and use of Sports Medicine equipment.
Health and safety regulations.
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
Public speaking techniques.
Oral and written communication skills.
Ability To
Participate in rigorous physical activities.
Prepare and deliver oral presentations.
Maintain routine records.
Determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines.
Operate, service and make minor repairs on equipment.
Education and Experience
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
BS degree (MS preferred) in Athletic Training or related field; NATABOC certification; minimum of one year experience in athletic training; and current CPR and first aid certification.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Valid California driver’s license.
Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency.
NATABOC athletic training certificate.
Environment
ENVIRONMENT:
Indoor and outdoor work environment.
Driving a vehicle to conduct work.
Subject to adverse weather conditions.
Subject to evening, weekend and variable working hours.


PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Dexterity of hands and fingers to demonstrate and participate in athletic practices.
Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally.
Standing for extended periods of time.
Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching.
Hearing and speaking to exchange information.
Carrying, pushing or pulling.
Lifting heavy objects/individuals required in rehabilitative activities.
