Support Staff Position (non-exempt)
Position TitleStaff Nurse - Part Time
Salary ($US) and BenefitsSalary Range: $30.00 - $36.50 (depending on experience and whether LVN or RN)
MissionPosition is for 24 hours/week for 36 weeks from mid-August to mid-May. Hours during those 36 weeks will be Tuesday 11am-8pm, Thursday 8am-5pm and Friday 8am-5pm.
For the remaining 16 weeks of the year, which are during academic breaks, the position will be split with one other nurse. During that time, the office is open 2 days per week (work hours: Tuesday 11am-8pm and Thursday 8am-5pm). This position will work 8 of those 16 weeks and have the other 8 weeks off of work.
Basic FunctionUnder the direction of the Director of Health Services, provide fundamental preventive health care and health education to the students of the University; make appropriate evaluations and ensure proper care of illness and injuries; provide for evaluation of mental and physical well-being of students and make recommendations as appropriate. The staff nurse(s) will perform the above duties according to relevant policies and procedures as well as applicable government regulations.
Representative DutiesProvide fundamental preventive health care to students of the University; provide for evaluation of mental and physical well-being of students and make recommendations as appropriate. E
Make appropriate evaluation and assure proper care of illness and injuries; perform diagnostics and obtain vital signs according to established procedures; collect laboratory specimens; administer non-prescription and prescription medications as ordered or per policy. E
Explain procedures, medications and other medical-related matters to students; provide for health education to students; arrange for individualized health education as needed. E
Prepare and maintain records and charts related to students and nursing activities; compile statistics as assigned. E
Administer, record, and track immunizations following Health Service policy and procedures. E
Arrange for medical referrals to community resources as needed utilizing the student’s medical insurance as appropriate; recommend appropriate follow-up care for students referred to outside agencies. E
Prepare first aid kits as needed; administer first aid to campus personnel and students. E
Operate a variety of medical laboratory equipment per laboratory guidelines to perform assigned duties; maintain and order supplies and equipment as needed. E
Participate in health awareness programs including health screenings and physicals; assist in community health projects as appropriate.
Attend a variety of meetings and represent Health Services at professional meetings; maintain current knowledge of nursing advances and equipment.
Train and provide work direction to student workers; assign and review work.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Education and ExperienceCompleted Registered Nursing or Licensed Vocational Nursing courses and obtained and maintained registered nursing license
Experience in general out-patient clinical practice (5 years’ experience preferred and college health experience preferred)
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Registered nursing license or Licensed Vocational nursing license
Possession of valid CPR certification and remain current thereafter
Medical office environment with constant interruptions
Hearing and speaking to exchange information
Seeing to read a variety of materials
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate medical equipment
Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to retrieve or file medical equipment
Strength to transfer dependent or unconscious patient
Contact with blood and other bodily fluids
Exposure to communicable diseases
Contact with dissatisfied or abusive individuals
