Salary Range: $64,391 - $80,000
Basic Function
The Director of Development - Sciences reports to the Director of Major and Planned Gifts. The Director of Development - Sciences is responsible for planning and implementing a program of identification, cultivation, visitation and solicitation of individual major gift and partnership prospects in support of a fundraising initiative for capital and endowment.
Representative Duties
• Develop an annual plan for the identification, cultivation and solicitation of major gifts with an emphasis on completing a minimum of 250 personal donor visits per year. E
• Assisted by the Manager of Prospect Research, direct research to identify major gift prospects and obtain information concerning financial capability, special interests, past history and current connections with the institution, close friends and advisors, and financial contributions to other causes. E
• Manage at least 250 prospects to include charting plans and timetable for each prospect to include cultivation, involvement, solicitation, and appropriate acknowledgement. E
• Carry out assignments and visits with specific major and planned gift prospects working with Deans, Senior Administration, faculty, trustees, and other key volunteers when appropriate. E
• Maintain a timetable, checklist and reporting system which will track “moves” and activities with each prospect. E
• Collaborate and participate in reporting sessions with Advancement Team members, the President and key volunteers to keep attention focused on the progress of the major gift effort. E
• Work closely with all members of the Advancement team. E
• Develop long term philanthropic relationships with donors. E
• Perform related duties as assigned.
Knowledge Of
Various giving instruments and their benefit to individual and charitable organizations.
Sciences and planned giving.
Cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies and fundraising techniques.
Understanding of the workings in a Development Office in an academic setting.
Techniques in generating significant commitments from individual sources.

Prioritize and balance a variety of tasks simultaneously.
Travel extensively.
Be available for evening and weekend work as needed.
Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Build lasting relationships with prospects and donors.
Education and Experience
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree and five years experience in major gift fundraising with demonstrated success generating commitments.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California driver’s license.
Weekend and nights as required.
Flexibility to travel 65% is essential.
Environment
ENVIRONMENT:
Office environment.
Driving a vehicle to conduct work.
Evening or variable hours.
