Position TitleAssistant Director of Student Life
Salary ($US) and BenefitsSalary Range: $56,684 - $61,000
Basic FunctionUnder the supervision of the Associate Director of Student Life, the Assistant Director plans, organizes, and provides leadership to comprehensive student life programs and systems. The Assistant Director is responsible for day-to-day operations, programming, facilities, and budget for several areas. The Assistant Director supervises two Coordinators who oversee the Community Service Center, as well as the Fitness Center and Recreational Sports.
Representative Duties• Direct supervision of two staff coordinators and both direct and indirect supervision of student interns and staff. E
• Oversee assigned budgets including Community Service Center and Outdoor Recreation. E
• Develop and implement large-scale co-curricular programming during the academic year and summer terms. E
• Oversee staff training and professional development of direct reports. E
• Oversee and manage marketing system for Student Life. E
• Advise student clubs and organizations as assigned. E
• Oversee appropriate assessments of programs and outcomes for assigned areas. E
• Oversee Student Life web presence and maintenance. E
• Assist in efforts to achieve annual Student Life goals. E
• Partner with faculty, Student Affairs and University offices to ensure Student Life’s place as an integral part of the academic mission of the institution. E
• Participate in events and initiatives within the Division of Student Affairs and on behalf of Student Life, which may include regular participation in nights and weekend programs and events. E
• Stay abreast of current CLU, regional and national trends related to student life areas through such means as professional association memberships, listservs, relationships with other institutions, and attendance at appropriate professional conferences. E
• Participate in various aspects of the Student Life area and provide general assistance to the Dean of Students, Associate Dean of Students and Director of Student Life, Associate Director, and general Student Life staff as needed. E
• Contribute to overall goals of program development and service to students as a member of the Student Life staff and as an active participant in staff meetings and the university community as a whole. E
• Become acquainted with campus students. E
• Increase avenues of communication with students by maintaining visibility, availability, and approachability. E
• Provide leadership on projects as assigned. E
• Be available as necessary, often including events and weekends, to meet student and staff needs and address concerns. E
• Assist students and staff with academic, personal, and social issues. E
• Make appropriate referral to various campus offices and personnel as well as off-campus support services. E
• Serve on campus wide and Student Affairs related committees as needed. E
• Support division wide projects and programs, such as Homecoming Week, New Student Orientation, Family Weekend, Preview Days, and Admitted Student Day. E
• Serve as department liaison with other areas of the University. E
• Assist in general problem solving and participate in campus crisis response, as appropriate. E
• Assist with crisis intervention, stabilizing situations, and coordinating the notification of the appropriate college officials/referral agencies. E
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and ExperienceMasters degree in College Student Services or related field. Preferred minimum of 4 years full-time experience in student development, leadership and activities. Directly related part-time graduate assistantship/internship experience will be considered in lieu of 1 year of full-time work. Experience with community service, intramurals, fitness and/or outdoor recreation desired.

• Valid California Driver’s License.
