What is 4G and Do I Need it?

Volume 5, No. 4

What is 4G?
The term 4G refers to the fourth-generation cell wireless service, a faster specification of the 2G and 3G predecessors.

Do I care?
Probably, because it promises faster service, not to mention you'll want to be cool and understand what everyone is talking about.

Do I need 4G?
While 4G is supposed to be faster, pause before rushing out to buy a new 4G phone. Why? Well for starters, where you use the phone might determine if there is 4G service available. While 4G is first being rolled out to metropolitan cities like Los Angeles and New York, most of Ventura County is a couple of year away from a 4G rollout.

In terms of speed, 4G will provide browsing speeds ten times faster than current 3G phones. Faster and more pervasive computing will continue to have a growing impact on the delivery of education, helping instructors and students extend learning tools in real time.

So to answer your questions...well, now you have the scoop and you decide if you care about or need 4G.
