Paintings by Chris Marshall

Opening Reception: Thursday, June 7, 7 p.m.

June 7 - August 13, 2007

Location: Kwan Fong Gallery of Art and Culture - map

The content and people that inhabit Chris Marshall’s paintings spring from his desire to investigate and illuminate the intimacy of interpersonal relationships. Marshall feels that in this postmodern era our society is becoming increasingly spiritually bankrupt. In his paintings, he shows that despite our estrangement from one another we still can and do connect with others on a meaningful level.

The “negative space” surrounding and separating the people in his paintings is aesthetically and symbolically as important as the characters themselves, effectively emphasizing the distance between people.

Having recently studied abroad with the world-renowned Norwegian painter Odd Nerdrum, the 2003 graduate of CLU now makes his home in Thousand Oaks.

Admission is free. The Kwan Fong Gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
