Vietnam, China, Laos, North Korea and Cuba are the last remaining Communist countries. These photographs will provoke strong reactions from visitors to the gallery as they catch a glimpse of everyday life behind forbidden borders and without the influence of the corporate media.
Brian Stethem, a member of CLU’s art faculty, gives us a glimpse of the lives of ordinary folk in China; poet/photographer Morgan Alexander brings her documentary shots of murals in Cuba; and CLU philosophy professor Xiang Chen, Ph.D., offers an insider’s view of Tibet.
The exhibit also includes photographs by Vietnam veteran Alex Linke and amazing images from deep in the Laos mountains by New Zealander Kees Sprengers as well as a slideshow of the remarkable clandestine work of the Greek photojournalist Yannis Kontos, whose shots of North Korea give us a rare glimpse into this secretive country.
Admission is free. The Kwan Fong Gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
